Idaho 511 publishes several views at Monida, including one looking at the Montana side. Check them plus the posted status. If a picture failed to load, use the official Idaho 511 map.

Why is I-15 closed at Monida when the camera looks clear?

A clear picture does not cancel a posted rule. Wind, blowing snow, and ground blizzards on the high open country close I-15 here — conditions a still photo can miss entirely. The posted status always wins.

What about the Montana side of Monida?

Montana owns the rule north of the line — the run toward Lima and Dillon. Check Montana 511 before continuing toward Butte.

Wind country

Monida is high, open country on the Continental Divide — the I-15 door between Idaho Falls and Butte. The closures here are about wind, blowing snow, and ground blizzards as much as snowfall, and a still photo can miss a ground blizzard entirely. Read the posted status even when the picture looks calm.

What about the Montana side?

Montana owns the rule north of the line — Lima, Dell, Dillon, and on toward Butte. Check Montana 511 before continuing. We do not re-host Montana cameras.
