Is Lookout Pass open right now?
Updated August 19, 2026 · Pictures refresh every few minutes
Only Idaho 511 can say. Open the official Idaho 511 map for today's status on I-90 — open, closed, or restricted. That page is the rule.
Then look at the cameras below, west to east, to see the road for yourself.
Walk the cameras west to east
There are two summits between Coeur d'Alene and Montana: Fourth of July Pass → the Silver Valley → Lookout Pass at the state line. Clear at one does not mean clear at the other.
Official Idaho 511 stills. Check the time printed on the picture — if there is no time, do not trust it. If a picture failed to load, skip it and use the next one.
Why I-90 can be closed when the picture looks fine
A clear picture does not cancel a posted rule. Idaho closes or restricts I-90 for crashes, spun-out trucks, and snow removal on the grades — things a still photo may not show. Night glare can look like ice, and an old picture can lie. The posted status always wins.
Do I need chains for Lookout Pass?
Only the posted Idaho 511 status can say, and truck rules differ from cars. The full answer is in Do I need chains?
What about the Montana side?
Montana owns the rule east of the summit. Check Montana 511 before continuing toward St. Regis and Missoula. We do not re-host Montana cameras.
Check again before you leave
Storms change both summits fast. The Lookout traffic desk keeps the rule link and the full camera walk in one place.
