Is Stevens Pass open right now?

Updated August 19, 2026 · Pictures refresh every few minutes

Only WSDOT can say. Open the official WSDOT Stevens Pass page for today's rule — open, closed, or chains. That page is the rule.

Then look at the cameras below, west to east, to see the road for yourself.

Walk the cameras west to east

Read them in driving order, like you are crossing: Skykomish → Old Faithful → West Summit → East Summit. Rain in Skykomish is not the summit.

The west approach. Open all Stevens cameras.
US-2 at Old Faithful, the avalanche zone west of Stevens Pass summit Old FaithfulWSDOT
The avalanche zone west of the summit — where closures usually start.
US-2 at West Summit near the Stevens Pass ski lodge West SummitWSDOT
The summit at the ski lodge. This is the picture that matters most.
US-2 at East Stevens Summit, starting down toward Leavenworth East SummitWSDOT
Over the top, starting down toward Coles Corner and Leavenworth.

Official WSDOT stills. They refresh every few minutes — they are not live video. If a picture failed to load, skip it and use the next one.

Why US-2 closes when the picture looks fine

Stevens is higher than Snoqualmie, and US-2 is a two-lane road through active avalanche zones — Old Faithful is named for one. WSDOT closes the pass for avalanche control, crashes, and spun-out vehicles, none of which a still photo has to show. Night glare can look like ice, and a two-hour-old picture can lie. The posted rule always wins.

Do I need chains for Stevens?

Only the WSDOT page can say, and the wording changes day to day. AWD and 4WD sometimes get to skip putting chains on but still have to carry them. The full answer is in Do I need chains?

Stevens or Snoqualmie?

Snoqualmie (I-90) is lower, wider, and usually reopens faster. Stevens (US-2) is the direct route to Leavenworth and the ski area. Sometimes one is fine when the other is a mess — and sometimes not. Compare both camera sets before you pick.

Check again before you leave

Storms change the pass fast. The Stevens traffic desk keeps the rule link and the full camera walk in one place.
