Is Sexton Summit open right now?
Updated August 19, 2026 · Pictures refresh every few minutes
Only ODOT can say. Open Oregon 511 / TripCheck for today’s rule on I-5 between Grants Pass and Roseburg. That page is the rule.
Then look at the cameras below to see the road for yourself.
The summit cameras
Official ODOT stills. Check the time printed on the picture — if there is no time, do not trust it. If a picture failed to load, skip it and use the next one.
One rule covers a string of summits
I-5 between Roseburg and Grants Pass is not one pass but a chain of them: Canyon Creek Pass near Canyonville, then Stage Road, Smith Hill, and Sexton Mountain. Snow that closes one usually threatens the rest, so read the posted rule for the whole stretch — not just the summit you remember.
Sexton is not Siskiyou
Siskiyou Summit is south of Ashland at the California line — the highest point on the whole interstate. The Sexton string is farther north. In a real winter storm both can go down; check both before you commit.
Do I need chains on I-5?
Sometimes, yes — interstate or not. Oregon can require chains on all vehicles over these summits. The full answer is in Do I need chains?
Check again before you leave
Valley rain turns to summit snow fast here. The I-5 Oregon traffic desk keeps the rule link and the cameras in one place.
