Why the McCall road closes

SH-55 is a two-lane road that climbs Horseshoe Bend Hill and then threads the Payette River canyon — no shoulder to spare. Crashes, snow, and slides close it or pin traffic to one lane, and holiday ski traffic makes any closure worse. Idaho 511 posts closures and delays; a clear still does not cancel them.

What is the alternative?

The usual long way is west: SH-52 / US-95 through Payette and Weiser, rejoining at New Meadows. Idaho 511 posts detour guidance with the closure — follow that, not a map shortcut through the mountains.
